Sheboygan A’s Rally for Walk-Off Win, Capture Wisconsin State League Tournament Title

OSHKOSH, Wis. – For the second time in four days, the Sheboygan A’s found themselves celebrating a championship.
Trailing by five runs early and four entering the bottom of the ninth, the A’s staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Green Bay Blue Ribbons 8-7 on a walk-off Sunday afternoon at E.J. Schneider Field, claiming the 2026 Wisconsin State League Tournament championship.
The tournament title comes on the heels of Thursday’s Wisconsin State League regular season championship, giving Sheboygan back-to-back titles to close out WSL play.
Green Bay wasted little time building an early advantage. The Blue Ribbons scored once in the first before adding four more in the second, highlighted by a Noah Robinson solo home run and a two-run single by James Bornick, to take a 5-0 lead.
The A’s began chipping away in the third. Sawyer Shultis singled and later scored on an RBI single by Alex Ames to make it 5-1. Cal Casper then blasted a solo home run to left field in the fourth, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
Green Bay added another run in the fifth on Miles Hunter’s RBI single before Boone Kirst drove home a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-2.
Sheboygan’s comeback began quietly in the eighth. Jimmy Juergensen walked and eventually scored after a wild pitch and balk by Green Bay reliever Benje Hencke, cutting the deficit to 7-3 entering the final inning.
The ninth inning belonged to the A’s.
Moxson Kernz worked a leadoff walk and Ames followed with another free pass. Chase Hanselman reached on an error that plated Kernz, bringing the tying run to the plate. Harry Steldt then drew another walk to load the bases.
Emmett Selin delivered the first big blow, lining a two-run single to left to score Ames and Hanselman and pull Sheboygan within one.
Juergensen followed with a single to reload the bases before Casper lined a single into center field, scoring Steldt and Selin to complete the stunning walk-off victory and send the A’s pouring out of the dugout.
Casper finished 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and the game-winning hit. Selin drove in two runs despite recording just one official at-bat, while Ames, Hanselman and Shultis each added two hits.
Eric Schmitz started for Sheboygan, allowing six runs over five innings while striking out six. Casey Stone was outstanding in relief, holding Green Bay to one run over four innings with four strikeouts to keep the A’s within striking distance. Juergensen pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the victory.
The A’s now turn their attention to one final goal. Sheboygan opens the best-of-three Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League Championship Series on Monday against the Menasha Macs at USA Sports Complex in Appleton after the series was relocated due to tornado damage in Menasha.
The series shifts to Wildwood Park on Tuesday night for Game 2, where the A’s will offer free general admission on a first-come, first-served basis while collecting donations for Menasha tornado relief efforts. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food, bottled water, toiletries and other requested supplies, while cash donations will also be accepted at the gate. If necessary, Game 3 will be played Wednesday at USA Sports Complex in Appleton.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
