A’s Rally Past Menasha to Take Game 1 of NEWBL Championship Series

The Sheboygan A’s erased an early four-run deficit Monday night and moved within one win of a second straight Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League championship, defeating the Menasha Macs 11-6 in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series.
The victory gives Sheboygan a chance to clinch the 2026 NEWBL title Tuesday night at Wildwood Park.
Menasha struck first with a four-run opening inning. Ryan Csida led off the game with a home run before Quade Thompson delivered an RBI double, Jacob Coopman followed with an RBI triple, and Colin Nigl capped the inning with an RBI single to put the Macs ahead 4-0.
Connor Lasch got the A’s on the board in the second, launching a solo home run to left field to trim the deficit to 4-1.
The game turned in the fifth inning as Sheboygan erupted for six runs to seize the lead.
George Hoss and Alex Ames opened the inning with walks before Chase Hanselman singled home Hoss. Harry Steldt followed with an RBI single to score Ames, and Cal Casper reached on an error that allowed Hanselman to cross the plate and tie the game. After Lasch singled, Nick Tenny reached on a fielder’s choice that brought Casper home following a throwing error. Hoss then delivered the biggest hit of the inning, lining a two-run single to left that scored Tenny and Lasch, giving the A’s a 7-4 advantage.
Menasha answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning on Jackson Anderson’s RBI single, but Sheboygan quickly regained momentum.
Casper blasted a solo home run to center field in the seventh before Hoss added another two-run single later in the inning, extending the lead to 10-5. The A’s added an insurance run in the ninth when Hanselman reached on an error that scored Hudson Wagner.
Casper and Lasch each homered, while Hoss finished with two hits and four RBIs. Steldt collected three hits, Hanselman added two, and the A’s totaled 11 hits while capitalizing on three Menasha errors.
Bryce Lovisa settled in after the rough first inning, allowing five runs over five innings while striking out six. Noah Imrie was outstanding in relief, tossing four innings while allowing just one run and striking out seven to earn the save.
Menasha was led by Coopman, who tripled and singled, while Csida homered and Olson recorded three hits.
The series now shifts to Wildwood Park on Tuesday night, where the A’s can clinch the NEWBL championship in front of their home fans. General admission will be free on a first-come, first-served basis as the organization also collects donations for Menasha tornado relief efforts. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Wednesday at USA Sports Complex in Appleton.
