Early Deficit Dooms A’s in 13-1 NEWBL Opening Loss to Kewaskum

The Sheboygan A’s found themselves facing an early deficit Tuesday night as Kewaskum used a seven-run first inning to pull away for a 13-1 victory in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League opener at Wildwood Park.
Kewaskum capitalized on a combination of timely hitting and defensive miscues in the opening frame, scoring seven times despite recording just four hits in the inning. Several unearned runs crossed the plate as the visitors quickly built a lead they would not relinquish.
The visitors added another run in the second on a solo home run before breaking the game open with four more runs in the third, including a three-run homer, extending Kewaskum’s advantage to 12-0.
Sheboygan generated opportunities throughout the evening but was unable to string together a sustained rally against Kewaskum’s starter Braden Bothe. The A’s collected five hits on the night, including singles from Alex Ames, Nick Tenny, and Emmett Selin, while Harry Steldt provided the lone extra-base hit with a sixth-inning RBI double.
Steldt’s double plated Lucas Lemons to account for Sheboygan’s only run of the contest. Selin added a pair of hits, while Ames reached safely and swiped a base in the loss.
Bryce Lovisa took the loss despite striking out three and not issuing a walk in his two innings of work. Nolan Sand, Colson Matter, and Shaun Gavin followed in relief. Matter provided two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out one while allowing just two hits.
The A’s will look to bounce back as NEWBL play continues Thursday at home against the Appleton Legends for Midwest Communications Night. Free tickets to the game are available at 2100 Washington Ave. in Sheboygan.
