A’s Throw Third Straight Complete Game Shutout

Posted: July 14, 2023

For the third time in as many games, the A’s threw a complete game shutout to get the win.

Following up Dylan Davis’s complete game gem Tuesday in Appleton and Jared Reklatis’s shutout of Burlington Sunday, Thursday night it was Brad Rindfleisch’s turn as the A’s starter struck out 17 in the nine inning victory.

Rindfleisch was dominant all night long, facing just four over the minimum. Five times he faced on three batters in an inning. The closest Rindfleisch came to getting in a jam was in the third inning when the Macs hit a single followed by a double with one our to put runners on second and third. Rindfleisch then struckout the next batter and induced a pop fly to right field to get out of the inning.

The A’s got their scoring started in the second when Jacob Neese (Parkland Community College) doubled to lead off the inning. With Jimmy Juergensen (Concordia University-Wisconsin) up to bat, Neese advanced to third base on a passed ball, then scored on a second straight passed ball to give the A’s a 1-0 lead.

The A’s would add three more in the bottom half of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. After the first two A’s batters reached based via a walk and hit by pitch, the next two A’s batters got out before Harry Steldt started the scoring, singling to center field allowing Justin Schnell (UW-Stout) to score and advancing Gus Walker (Marian University) to second. Another passed ball by the Macs catcher allowed Walker to move to third and Steldt to second with Brady Zackrison (Marian University) up to bat. Zackrison would hit a sharp ground ball to shortstop that the fielder couldn’t handle, scoring Walker and advancing Steldt to third. On yet another passed ball, Steldt would trot in to make the score 4-0.

The A’s would add their final runs in the sixth when Ian Merry (UW-Platteville) led things off with a single passed the third baseman. After a wild pitch and ground ball out advanced Merry to third, Merry would score the A’s fifth run on a wild pitch to Walker, who would eventually walk in his plate appearance. Walker would come in to score on a single later in the inning.

Rindfleisch did the rest of the work, shutting down the Macs hitters with three straight three up, three down innings to close things out.

The A’s will take Friday off then get ready to host the Lombard Orioles in a four-game weekend set at Wildwood Park. Saturday is Hall of Fame Day where former A’s shortstop Grant Berkovitz will get inducted into the A’s Hall of Fame between games of the 4 PM doubleheader.

Sunday is our next MEIJER Family Day, where all kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. All kids will be invited onto the field for our high-five tunnel during the A’s starting lineups, and select kids will get introduced with the A’s as part of our Junior Starters. Players will be available for autographs between games of the doubleheader, and kids can run the bases after the final game.
