Weekend Recap: A’s Dispatch Orioles, Finish 2-1 Over Weekend

Posted: June 12, 2023

Sheboygan, WI – The A’s completed their Wisconsin State League Challenge weekend Sunday with a 2-1 victory over the defending league-champion Lombard Orioles. A fitting score as that was also their record over the weekend.

The A’s started off the weekend with an 8-1 victory over the Kenosha Kings, before dropping the Saturday night matchup to the Addison Braves 2-1.

With the dust all settled from the weekend, here’s a look at the current Wisconsin State League standings:
1. West Allis Nationals (6-3)
2. Kenosha Kings (5-3)
3. Green Bay Blue Ribbons (5-5)
4. Lombard Orioles (4-4)
5. Addison Braves (5-6)
6. Sheboygan A’s (4-5)
7. Burlington Barons (1-4)

Saturday against Kenosha, the A’s did all their damage in the second and third innings when they scored five and three respectively. Kyle Flynn (Concordia University-Wisconsin), had a double, Brady Zackrison (Marian University) a triple, and Carson Hansen (UW-Milwaukee) a home run in his A’s debut. Eric Schmitz started the game, lasting six innings, striking out five, while Noah Imrie closed things out in the seventh.

In Saturday’s nightcap, the A’s were held to just three hits as the Braves grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second. The A’s would plate their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, then went away quietly in the seventh. Hansen, Jimmy Juergensen (Concordia University-Wisconsin), and veteran Harry Steldt had the only base knocks for the A’s. Despite striking out 11, Brad Rindfleisch took the tough loss.

Sunday, it was the Jared Reklaitis show, as the A’s starter struk out 11 on his way to the complete game victory. The only blemish of the otherwise spectacular pitching performance was a solo home run given up in the Orioles half of the seventh. Steldt’s two-RBI single in the third provided all the offense the A’s needed, when Justin Schnell (UW-Stout) and Gus Walker (Marian University) both scored.

The A’s will take Monday off before diving back into Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League action Tuesday at home against the Kewaskum A’s. It’s the annual Plymouth Dirt Track Night on Tuesday, with race cars on display from about 6:15-7:15 PM before the game. Thursday is the always big Midwest Communications night with prize giveaways all game long. Fans can get free tickets to the game by stopping by the Midwest Communications office. Sunday is the A’s next Meijer Family Day, with a twist – in honor of Father’s Day, the A’s are hosting their first ever DAD BOD competition. Tickets for all A’s home games in June are on sale now.
