A’s Open 2026 Season With 6-2 Win Over Two Rivers

Posted: May 28, 2026

The 2026 season opened on a winning note for the Sheboygan A’s on Wednesday night, as the A’s defeated the Two Rivers Polar Bears 6-2 in a seven-inning non-league contest at Wildwood Park.

Sheboygan wasted little time getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. After Alex Ames was hit by a pitch to lead off the season and later moved into scoring position, Harry Steldt lined an RBI double to right field to give the A’s an early 1-0 advantage.

The A’s added to the lead in the third inning with a three-run frame. Steldt opened the rally with a single before Jimmy Juergensen drove home a run with an RBI single to right. Later in the inning, Riley Palmquist was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in another run, and George Hoss capped the inning with an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 4-0.

Sheboygan extended the lead again in the fourth. Jacob Neese doubled into center field before Juergensen delivered another RBI single, scoring Steldt to push the lead to 5-0. Nick Tenny later brought home another run on a fielder’s choice to give the A’s a 6-0 cushion.

Eric Schmitz earned the win on the mound after tossing five shutout innings in his first start of the season. Schmitz allowed just one hit while striking out three. Nolan Sand worked a scoreless sixth inning in relief before Colson Matter closed out the seventh.

Two Rivers broke through in the final inning on a two-run homer, but Matter settled in to record a pair of strikeouts and finish off the season-opening victory.

Juergensen led the A’s offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Steldt finished with two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Neese also doubled and scored a pair of runs in the win.

The A’s will head to Denmark on Friday evening, and return to Wildwood Park Saturday and Sunday for a pair of double headers against the Chicago Rippers. Sunday is Meijer Family Day, where all kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. Kids can be registered to be a Junior Starter and get introduced on the field with the A’s during the game one starting lineup. A’s players will be available for autographs between games of the doubleheader, and fans can run the bases after the final game. Plus, enjoy the concession stand special of grilled cheese sandwiches and patty melts. Mario and Peach will also be at Wildwood Park, presented by Mischief & Magic, for one hour once the game starts.
