A’s Grab #2 Seed in Langsdorf League Playoffs
Posted: July 24, 2013
Taylor Schwarz recorded his fifth victory of the season and his sixth complete game, pitching the Sheboygan A’s to an 8-4 victory over the West Allis Nationals at Wildwood Baseball Park Tuesday night.
The win gives the A’s a share of the 2013 Langsdorf League regular season championship, but a second seed in the playoffs as Kenosha beat Northern Illinois to win the first seed. While Kenosha and the A’s tied for the top spot, Kenosha won two of the three Langsdorf League games to win the first tiebreaker – head to head competition.
Unofficially, the playoffs look like this: July 25, Burlington at Northern Illinois; July 26, July 25 winner at West Allis; July 27, July 26 winner at Sheboygan. That winner begins a best of three series at Kenosha July 31 with the second and third (if necessary) games on Aug. 1 and Aug. 3.
Schwarz scattered seven hits and struck out six to go to 5-1 for the season.
The A’s took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed.
Returning to the line-up after sitting out a week with a hand injury, Harry Steldt drove in three runs with three hits. Ryan Schilter, Cole Heili and Jeremy McCarty all added two hits.
Now 31-20 for the season, the A’s travel to Green Bay Wednesday and to Kenosha Thursday. They have a make-up doubleheader scheduled with Oshkosh Sunday. Appleton defeated Oshkosh 4-2 Tuesday night and needs to win only one of its three remaining games to clinch the second seed for home field advantage in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League playoffs. The A’s currently sit in third in the NEW.
