A’s Rally Past Defending Champion Lombard to Finish Challenge Weekend Strong

Posted: June 14, 2026

The Sheboygan A’s closed out the Wisconsin State League Challenge with one of their biggest wins of the season Sunday, rallying past the defending Wisconsin State League champion Lombard Orioles for a 9-4 victory.

The win capped a 2-1 weekend for Sheboygan and improved the A’s to 10-6 overall and 6-2 in Wisconsin State League play. Lombard, a perennial league powerhouse and defending league champion, left Sheboygan surprisingly winless at 0-3 for the weekend and just 1-4 in league play.

Lombard struck first with a sacrifice fly in the opening inning, but the A’s answered in the fourth. Jimmy Juergensen and Nick Tenny reached base before Hudson Wagner lined a single to center field, driving home both runners and giving Sheboygan a 2-1 lead.

The Orioles responded in the fifth inning. Lombard collected four runs on four hits and two sacrifice flies to move in front 4-2, putting the A’s on the brink of their second loss of the weekend.

Sheboygan answered immediately with its biggest inning of the day.

After the first batter of the bottom of the fifth was retired, the A’s loaded the bases with three consecutive walks. Juergensen worked a walk to force home a run, Tenny brought in another with a fielder’s choice, and Wagner followed with an RBI single to tie the game. A passed ball then allowed Tenny to score the go-ahead run before Alex Ames lined an RBI single to cap a five-run inning and put Sheboygan ahead 7-4.

The A’s added two more runs in the sixth. Juergensen delivered a two-run double that scored Harry Steldt and Jacob Neese, and Tenny followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 9-4.

Tenny finished with two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Wagner collected three hits and drove in three runs, while Juergensen added two RBIs. Ames reached base twice and drove in a run, and Steldt chipped in a hit, a walk, and a run scored.

On the mound, Gavin Gawronski earned the victory, allowing four runs on eight hits over five innings while striking out four. Bryce Lovisa was outstanding in relief, tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts to close out the game.

Despite committing an error, the A’s made the plays they needed late and held Lombard scoreless over the final two innings while their offense pulled away.

The A’s have now won six of their first eight Wisconsin State League games and will look to carry that momentum into Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League play Tuesday on the road at Appleton – just their second road game of the season.

Sheboygan returns home Thursday night to host the Appleton Legends for Youth Hockey Night, presented by Curt Joa. Youth players wearing their team jerseys will receive free general admission, and fans can enjoy a $5 meal deal featuring a hot dog, soda, and chips.
