A’s Split Saturday Doubleheader at Lombard

The Sheboygan A’s split a Wisconsin State League doubleheader with the Lombard Orioles on Saturday at Madison Meadows Park, taking the opener 7-4 before falling 4-1 in the second game.
Sheboygan took control of Game 1 almost immediately. George Hoss was hit by a pitch and Chase Hanselman singled before Harry Steldt doubled home Hoss. Connor Lasch followed with a sacrifice fly to score Hanselman, giving the A’s a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
The A’s then erupted for five runs in the second. Cal Casper reached on an error, Sawyer Shultis singled and Hoss reached on another Lombard miscue before an error in right field allowed Casper and Shultis to score. Steldt added a sacrifice fly, and Lasch capped the inning with a two-run home run to left, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Lombard scored once in the second and once in the fourth before adding two unearned runs in the seventh, but Gavin Gawronski finished the complete-game victory. Gawronski allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits over seven innings while striking out five.
Lasch drove in three runs, while Steldt doubled and collected two RBIs. Hanselman, Jimmy Juergensen and Shultis each added a hit.
Lombard struck first in Game 2 and never gave up the lead. Hudson Williams singled in the opening inning and scored on a sacrifice fly before the Orioles added two more runs in the second on RBI hits from Constatine Coines and Williams.
Sheboygan was held without a hit through four innings before mounting a threat in the fifth. Hudson Wagner was hit by a pitch and Hoss singled, with an error allowing both runners to move into scoring position. Hanselman followed with a sacrifice fly to score Wagner and cut the deficit to 3-1, but the A’s could not bring home another run.
Lombard added an unearned insurance run in the sixth after a two-out error, extending the lead to 4-1.
Bryce Lovisa worked all six innings for the A’s, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out two. Hoss finished 2-for-3, while Lasch recorded Sheboygan’s other hit.
The A’s and Orioles continue the four-game weekend series with another doubleheader Sunday at Madison Meadows Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
