Fast Start Sends A’s Past West Allis, Maintain Hold on First Place

Posted: July 15, 2026

The Sheboygan A’s wasted little time taking control Wednesday night, scoring four runs in the first inning before holding off a late West Allis rally for a 7-5 Wisconsin State League victory.

The win keeps the A’s in first place in the league with a 12-5 record.

After Alex Ames opened the game with a double and Chase Hanselman worked a walk, Jimmy Juergensen delivered the game’s biggest early hit with a two-run single to right. Later in the inning, Nick Tenny singled before Brad Rindfleisch lined a two-out single to left. An error on the play allowed both Juergensen and Tenny to score as Sheboygan jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

West Allis answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, cutting the deficit to one on RBI hits by Brian Huntzinger and Nick Argersinger.

The A’s immediately responded in the fourth. George Hoss walked and Ames followed with a single before Hoss stole third. Hanselman brought Hoss home with an RBI groundout, and after Connor Lasch reached on an error, Juergensen came through again with an RBI single to center to stretch the advantage to 6-3. Juergensen finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

West Allis again chipped away in the bottom half of the inning. Zach Rizzo doubled, Jonah Meidl reached on an error that plated one run, and Ashton Kampa added a sacrifice fly to trim the margin to 6-5. Jason Bunton stranded two runners by getting a groundout to end the threat.

Jason Bunton earned the win, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits over six innings while striking out five. Cade Voelker tossed two scoreless innings of relief, working around traffic in both the seventh and eighth innings, before Joe Richardson closed the door in the ninth. After allowing two two-out singles, Richardson struck out Zach Rizzo swinging to earn the save in his second straight strong relief appearance.

Sheboygan added an insurance run in the ninth when Ames singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Lasch’s sacrifice fly to make it 7-5. Ames finished 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored while also stealing a base. Lasch added a hit and two RBIs, and Tenny and Rindfleisch each collected a hit as the A’s finished with nine hits.

The A’s return home Thursday night to host the Menasha Macs in Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League action. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Wildwood Park.
