The Sheboygan A’s answered an early deficit with a big first inning and received strong pitching from Eric Schmitz and Joe Richardson to earn a 7-2 Wisconsin State League victory over the West Allis Nationals Tuesday night at Wildwood Park.

West Allis grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the A’s responded immediately. Alex Ames reached on an error before Chase Hanselman singled, and after Harry Steldt struck out and Connor Lasch reached on a fielder’s choice, Hudson Wagner worked a two-out walk to load the bases. Jimmy Juergensen then delivered the game’s biggest hit, clearing the bases with a three-run double to put Sheboygan in front 3-1.

The A’s continued to build their lead in the third. Steldt drew a leadoff walk before Wagner doubled to center to score him. Juergensen moved Wagner to third with a groundout, and Nick Tenny followed with a two-out RBI single to stretch the advantage to 5-1.

Sheboygan added another run in the fourth when Lasch doubled home Ames after Ames had been hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. An inning later, Tenny singled with two outs before Ames drove him home with an RBI single to make it 7-1.

Schmitz earned the win, allowing one run on five hits over six innings while striking out six and walking one. He stranded multiple West Allis scoring opportunities, helping limit the Nationals to a single run despite several baserunners. Richardson made his Sheboygan debut with three innings of relief, allowing one run while striking out three to close out the victory.

Juergensen finished with a game-high three RBIs, while Ames collected two hits and scored twice. Lasch, Wagner, and Tenny each had two hits, with Lasch and Wagner both doubling and driving in a run. Tenny also added an RBI single as the A’s produced seven runs on 10 hits. Hanselman and Steldt each contributed a hit in the balanced offensive effort.

The victory keeps the A’s atop the Wisconsin State League standings at 10-3, while West Allis fell to 9-6. The two teams continue their three-game series Wednesday night in West Allis before returning to Wildwood Park for Thursday’s series finale.
