Sim’s Walkoff Single Wins it For the A’s

It wasn’t looking good for the A’s in the ninth inning Wednesday night.
Trailing 1-0 in a pitchers duel, and having just given up the go-ahead run in the eighth, it looked like Green Bay was going to escape with a 1-0 victory. And then things changed.
Jimmy Juergensen led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to left-center field to get the tying run in scoring position. After the next A’s batter struck out, and with Nick Herzog pinch running for Juergensen, Herzog advanced to third on a wild pitch that would lead to an eventual Blane Bradford walk to put runners on the corners with Jason Sims coming to the plate.
The first pitch Sims saw went for ball one. Pitch two allowed the A’s to tie the game as it went to the backstop, scoring Herzog and advancing Bradford to second base. Three pitches later, Sims drove a ball to right field that landed just in front of a reaching Blue Ribbons right fielder, sending Bradford across the plate for the 2-1 win.
Not to be lost in the shuffle, was A’s starter Brad Rindfleisch, who threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs, striking out 15 and walking just two while scattering six hits. Rindfleisch leads the A’s pitching staff in innings pitched (54.1), strikeouts (83), ERA (1.49), and wins (5).
