A’s, Orioles Split Saturday Doubleheader

Sheboygan, WI – The A’s scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two Saturday night to grab a 3-2 victory over the Lombard Orioles. They dropped game one of the doubleheader 4-2.

After Gus Walker (Marian University) reached via a hit by pitch to lead of the sixth of game two, Sean Tillmon (UW-Milwaukee), who made his A’s debut in game one, laced a line dive double to center field advancing Walker to third. Up to bat came Harry Steldt who hit a hard ground ball to left center field, easily scoring Walker. Tillmon was also waved home, and using his speed, just beat the throw to the plate.

Carson Bresser (UW-Whitewater), also making his debut, who came on in relief of starter Eric Zuberbier in the top of the sixth, pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up his first win as an A, but it wasn’t without drama. After inducing pop outs to the outfield to the fist two batters, a single and two walks loaded the bases for the Orioles. Not only that, but the next batter Bresser faced got a 3-0 count to start the at bat. After a fastball down the middle to make it 3-1, the Orioles batter grounded out to Tillmon who stepped on second base for the out.

Starter Eric Zuberbier pitched a solid five innings, striking out three. The Orioles only offense came off the bat of Matt Shuler, who hit two solo home runs off Zuberbier.

In game one, the A’s took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a Brady Zackrison (Marian University) double off the centerfield wall. Lombard would respondwith three in the third to take a 3-1 lead then tack on another in the fifth.

Ian Merry (UW-Platteville) singled in Zackrison in the sixth to cut into the deficit.

The A’s and Orioles will play another doubleheader Sunday beginning at 1 PM. Sunday is MEIJER Family Day, where all kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. All kids will be invited onto the field for our high-five tunnel during the A’s starting lineups, and select kids will get introduced with the A’s as part of our Junior Starters. Players will be available for autographs between games of the doubleheader, and kids can run the bases after the final game. PLUS, enjoy balloon animals and face painting courtesy of Mischief & Magic. It’s also Superhero Day, presented by Superhero Day presented by Wisconsin Bank and Trust, Deland Receiving Home, and Kiwanis Club of Greater Sheboygan with SUPERMAN making an appearance at Wildwood Park.
