A’s Drop Crucial Game with Green Bay

Posted: July 7, 2023

For the second team in nearly a week, the Green Bay Blue Ribbons virtually had their way with the A’s as they picked up an 8-1 victory Thursday night.

The loss pushed the A’s below .500 in the Wisconsin State League, and kept them below .500 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League.

Since winning the Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic tournament championship, the A’s have struggled of late, dropping four of their last five. Things won’t get any easier for them tonight as the second-place West Allis Nationals are back at Wildwood Park in a Wisconsin State League game at 7:30 PM.

The Blue Ribbons got on the board early and often Thursday, scoring runs in each of the first three innings, and having the bases loaded with no outs in the fourth. Although the A’s were able to get out of the bases-loaded jam, the offense was held in check by starting pitcher Owen Deprez, who scattered four hits over six and a third innings.

The A’s lone run of the game came in the bottom of the sixth, when Carson Hansen (UW-Milwaukee) doubled with one out. Harry Steldt then singled to left center allowing Hansen to score from second. On the other occasions when the A’s did barrel up the ball, Green Bay’s defense was there to make a stop and put an end to any chance the A’s had of getting back in the game.

Tonght is Youth Baseball/Softball night presented by Cousin’s Subs and Connect Cell-A US Cellular Authorized Agent. Youth baseball and softball players who wear their team’s jersey to the game will get a free general admission ticket. There will also be a concession stand special of a hot dog, soda, and chips for just $4.

Tickets to the game are available here.
