Posted: June 24, 2023

Sheboygan, WI – The A’s upped their Wisconsin Amateur Baseball Classic tournament record to 2-0 Friday night after hammering the Milwaukee Beavers 12-3.

After a scoreless first two innings, the A’s offense erupted for seven runs in the top of the third. Bennet Becker (Carrol College) led off the inning with a five-pitch walk. A single by Jack Counsell (University of Michigan commit) moved Becker over to second. After Carson Hansen (UW-Milwaukee) grounded into a fielder’s choice that ended up scoring Becker, the next five A’s hitters would all reach base as Harry Steldt walked, Brady Zackrison (Marian University) singled, Kyle Flynn (Concordia University-Wisconsin) walked, Jimmy Juergensen (Concordia University-Wisconsin) singled, and Riley Palmquist (Marian University) doubled. Juergensen would score on a passed ball and Palmquist would tag up to score making the lead 7-0.

The Beavers would chip away in the bottom half of the third, cutting their deficit to 7-3 on a couple of extra-base hits.

The A’s would immediately get two of the three runs back in the fourth when Counsell led off the inning with a single, followed by Hansen who crushed a ball to right field for his second home run of the season.

Insurance runs were added in the fifth and seventh to cement the game away.

Dylan Davis (Marian University) picked up the win, pitching five innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and striking out four. Michael Martinez (Marian University) pitched the final two innings in relief.

Tournament play resumes Saturday in West Bend as the A’s will face the Hartford Hawks. The top four teams after Saturday’s action will move to Sunday’s semi-finals.
