Sheboygan Wins Battle of the “A’s”, 3-2

Posted: May 25, 2023

Brad Rindfleisch struck out 10 in his first outing of the season, and Harry Steldt drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the 9th as the Sheboygan A’s rallied from an early 2-0 hole to win 3-2 Wednesday night over the Kewaskum A’s.

The win was the opener of the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League for both teams.

Tied 2-2 in the ninth, Riley Palmquist (Marian University) led things off with a line drive single to left. After a strikeout, Bennet Becker (Carroll College) singled to right and advanced to second on an error, allowing Palmquist to get to third. A four-pitch walk to Gus Walker (Marian University) loaded the bases. An infield fly kept the runners stranded with two outs, until Steldt came to the plate. Going down 0-2 in the count, Steldt remained patient, taking four straight balls for the go-ahead run.

The pitching staff for the (Sheboygan) A’s combined for 17 strikeouts, with Rindfleisch leading the way with 10, Dawson Selvoski (Ripon College) with two in one inning of relief, Mac Doherty (Marian University) with two in two innings of relief, and Ryan Roehl (St. Cloud State) striking out the side in the ninth for the first save of the season.

Sheboygan is now 4-0, 0-0 WSL, 1-0 NEWBL to start the 2023 campaign.
