Schmitz Fans 14 As A’s Take Down Menasha
Posted: July 22, 2025
Eric Schmitz delivered a dominant performance on the mound Monday night, striking out 14 batters while throwing a complete game and leading the Sheboygan A’s to a 4-2 victory over the Menasha Macs at Wildwood Park.
The right-hander was in command throughout, allowing just five hits and two runs (one earned) over nine innings while walking only one. Schmitz threw 115 pitches, 83 for strikes, and closed the game by retiring the final seven batters he faced.
The A’s opened the scoring in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. Alex Ames walked to lead things off, and after a hit-by-pitch and a fielder’s choice, John Hadley was hit to force in a run and give Sheboygan a 1-0 lead.
Menasha briefly took the lead in the third, using a pair of baserunners and back-to-back sacrifice flies to go ahead 2-1.
The A’s answered in the fourth. Hadley led off with a triple to right-center and came home on Chase Hanselman’s two-out double to deep center to tie the game 2-2.
In the fifth, the A’s regained the lead. Ames reached on a hit-by-pitch and moved to third on a single from Riley Palmquist. Connor Lasch followed with a hard single up the middle to score Ames and make it 3-2.
Sheboygan added insurance in the sixth when Hadley singled, advanced to third on another Palmquist hit, and scored on a fielder’s choice to push the lead to 4-2.
Palmquist and Hadley led the A’s with two hits apiece, while Hanselman and Palmquist each contributed doubles. The bottom third of the order — Hanselman, Jimmy Juergensen, and Palmquist — combined for four of Sheboygan’s eight hits and drove in two of the four runs.
Defensively, the A’s turned a crisp double play in the seventh to help preserve the lead, and Schmitz faced just four batters over the minimum in the final three innings.
The A’s improved their record to 24-19 overall and 9-3 in Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League play. They’ll head to Appleton on Tuesday before returning home Wednesday night for their final regular season home game of the year.
