A’s Close Out Home Schedule with 9-4 Win

Posted: July 29, 2024

The Sheboygan A’s closed out the home portion of the 2024 schedule with a bang.

Harry Steldt and Jacob Neese each had a solo-home run as the A’s topped topped Kewaskum 9-4 on Sunday at Wildwood Park.

Sheboygan struck first in the game, getting three in the second inning to jump out early. Ian Merry singled in Brady Zackrison, then Gus Walker doubled in Merry, and Alex Ames singled in Jimmy Juergensen.

Kewaskum cut the lead to 3-1 with a solo home run in the third, but Steldt smashed the third pitch he saw to lead off the bottom of the third over the centerfield fence to push the A’s lead back up to three.

In the fifth, the A’s would add onto their lead in consecutive at-bats, with a Merry sacrifice fly, and a Juergensen ground out into a fielder’s choice each would score a run.

Kewaskum would push two across the plate in the sixth, but the A’s would again immediately respond as Neese drove a pitch to deep left field and over the wall.

The A’s would add two more in the seventh in the eventual win.

Jared Reklaitis earned the win for the A’s, allowing three hits and one run over five innings, striking out nine and walking none. Hunter Netzler collected the save.

The A’s tallied 13 hits in the game, with Alex Perez, Neese, Ames, and Nick Herzog each collecting two.

The A’s focus now shifts to the playoffs. They will have a one-game playoff at West Allis on Wednesday for the right to go to the Wisconsin Class A State Tournament, August 3-4 in Burlington.
