Sheboygan A's Baseball

Fan Appreciation Night Set For Saturday

Posted: August 9, 2013

The Sheboygan A’s will hold their Fan Appreciation Night at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Wildwood Baseball Park as they take on the Menasha Macs in Game 2 of the best-of-three Northeastern Wisconsin League championship series.

The matchup will be the A’s final home game this season.

“Our fans have been good to us this year — they are a big part of the equation that has gotten us to the championship playoffs in two different leagues — and our marketing guys felt we should do something to recognize them,” club president Scott Stangel said in a press release.

Each paid admission or season ticket holder in attendance will receive trinkets from A’s sponsor Larry’s Distributing, along with a certificate for 20 percent off on any item at the A’s souvenir/spirit wear booth.

Additional prizes will be awarded every inning, with several other prizes given away as part of a 50-50 raffle.

The A’s take a 36-23 overall record into the championship series, which starts tonight in Menasha. Included are two wins (9-3 and 6-0) and two losses (5-0 and 6-4) this year against Menasha. The two teams have been battling since 1967, with the A’s holding a 78-56 advantage.

The last time the two teams met in the NEW playoffs was in the 2011 semifinals. The A’s won in two games, 13-2 and 1-0, to advance to the finals, where they fell to Manitowoc in three games. The A’s were eliminated by Green Bay in last year’s semifinals. This season, Sheboygan swept Appleton in the semifinals to get to the championship series.

Harry Steldt (.354), Cole Heili (.342) and Chad Langley (.300) have carried the club at the plate, while Frank Pietrantonio (.324) and Jordan DeBoer (.360) have made huge contributions in recent weeks.

Skipper Tyler Martin has not yet named his starting pitcher for tonight’s 7:15 p.m. opener in Menasha, but it is likely to be either Taylor Schwarz or Bryce Taylor.

On Saturday night, the box office will open at 6:30 p.m. and the souvenir/spirit wear booth will open at 6:45 p.m. for fans wanting to take advantage of the discount coupons.
