Back-to-back shutouts lift A’s over Bandits

Posted: July 4, 2012

The Manitowoc Bandits managed to place only three runners in scoring position as Sheboygan A’s pitchers registered their second shutout in as many days to post the club’s fourth straight victory.

The A’s posted a 6-0 victory over the Bandits Tuesday night in a game that counted in both the Northeastern Wisconsin League and the Wisconsin State League. The win pulls the A’s out of the WSL cellar. It also pulls them to within a half game of the Northeastern Wisconsin League lead.

Tom Sawyer opened the game with a base hit off A’s starter Ben Stanczyk and moved to second in an infield out. Sawyer would be the only runner Stanczyk would allow to reach second in his seven innings of 2-hit, 5-strikeout pitching. Cody Griebling and Brandon Winfield each threw one scoreless inning of relief.

A hustling double by Ryan Schilter was followed by Chad Langley’s RBI single to give the A’s the game’s first run in the fifth. Doubles by Drew Pearson and Trevor Theissen added runs in the sixth and seventh, a double Steldt added two in the eighth and Grant Evans’ base hit drove in Steldt.

Jon Capasso, Schilter, and Steldt all had two hits for the A’s.

Now 17-12 for the season, the club hosts the Kenosha Bobcats Thursday in the make- up of the Sponsors Night game that was rained out on June 18. First pitch Thursday is 7:30 p.m.
