Fast Starts Determine A’s Doubleheader Split

APPLETON – In game one the A’s scored four runs in the second inning and went on to a 9-3 win.
In game two, Appleton scored five in the first and went on to a 14-7 win.
The doubleheader split gives the A’s a 2-3 record in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and a 6-6 overall mark. The club travels to Racine Tuesday night to finish the disastrous 7-game road trip. Playing all week on the road, the A’s went 1-5.
Harry Steldt hit the A’s first home run of the season to kick off the second inning, and with Justin Hunt, Sam Raff and Sam Mattheis adding base hits the A’s pushed over four runs in the frame. Taylor Schwarz’ home run made it 5-3 and a 4-run seventh made it a runaway.
Dillion Engle was the winning pitcher, giving up six hits and four earned runs in five innings. Jake Ristow pitched two scoreless innings to finish it up. Steldt, Hunt and Raff all had two hits.
Jake Schaffhauser got off to a bad start and game two got out of hand quickly. Appleton put up golf card score-by-innings numbers 5 3 3 3 before finishing with zeroes when Schwarz came in to relieve. Steldt, Chad Langley and Matt Bromley all had two hits for the A’s.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
