Posted: June 5, 2012

OSHKOSH – A couple muffed ground balls followed by a couple muffed scoring opportunities left the Sheboygan A’s 4-3 losers to the Oshkosh Giants on Monday night.

The loss puts the A’s at 0-1 in the Wisconsin State League, 1-1 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League and 5-2 overall.

The A’s scored two runs in the second after Harry Steldt got hit by a pitch, Drew Pearson doubled and Justin hunt drove in both with another double.

It stayed at 2-0 until the fourth when a pair of infield errors helped Oshkosh to a 4-run inning.

The A’s got one back in the seventh but got the tying run thrown out at the plate on a very close call. Then in the eighth they left the bases loaded and Oshkosh escaped with a 4-3 win.

Jake Schaefer gave the A’s a solid start, working 5 1/3 innings before the miscues led to his undoing. Sam Mattheis was strong in relief.

Nate Heitman got the win for Oshkosh, Luke Westphal a save.

Jon Capasso had a single and a double for the A’s.
