A’s Hurlers Blank Addison

Sheboygan A’s pitchers threw four shutouts at the Addison Braves as the city club posted four Wisconsin State League victories over the weekend.
On Saturday Jack Archie threw a 2-hit shutout for a 2-0 win.
And Mitch Gardner threw a 3-hit shutout for a 7-0 win.
On Sunday, Colin Weyer threw a 6-hit shutout for an 8-0 win.
And Eric Van Beck and Connor Lenz combined on a 5-hit shutout for a 6-0 win.
Saturday, Game 1
Archie struck out six and walked two in his 2-hitter. The game was a 0-0 deadlock until the sixth when Colin Willis walked, moved up on a sacrifice and scored on Tim Patzman’s double. Ryan Solberg then doubled Patzman home.
Saturday, Game 2
Gardner threw a 3-hitter with four strikeouts. The A’s hammered in three runs in the first inning and cruised home. Shaun Wegner had a single and double; Willis, Ryan Solberg, and Joey Patzman had two hits; Tim Patzman three runs batted in and Grant Berkovitz a double.
Sunday, Game 1
Weyer threw a 6-hitter with five strikeouts. The A’s scored single runs in the first, second and fourth innings and tallied four in the fifth to race to the win. Willis and Berkovitz had two hits, Greg Rhude a double, and Justin Hunt and Taylor Schwarz drove in two runs.
Sunday, Game 2
Van Beck struck out four in his six innings and Connor Lenz threw the seventh. The A’s broke open a 0-0 game with four runs in the fourth on hits by Rhude, Tim Patzman, Adam Wilson, Joey Patzman and Berkovitz, and a sacrifice fly by Charlie Reschke. Tim Patzman, Wilson and Phil Kramsky had a single and double and Rhude two base hits.
After posting an amazing 8-2 record in their grueling 10-game in 7-day stretch, the A’s are now 24-15 for the season and 12-10 in the Wisconsin State League.
The A’s resume play in the Northeastern League Tuesday night when Appleton invades for a 7:30 p.m. match-up. Tuesday is Elks Night at the ballpark. The A’s will also welcome the Sheboygan Optimists Club and the Diamonds U13 team.
The Appleton game is a big one as the club is gunning for a second place finish in the NEW that would give them home field advantage in the playoffs that begin Aug. 5. They currently stand 9-8, one half game behind Menasha. The A’s play their last regularly scheduled game at Wildwood Park against Kenosha on Wednesday. That is Sheboygan Bowling Association Night with the A’s also teaming with AAA Travel and Insurance to host a Chamber of Commerce Business after hours that begins at 5 p.m.
The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
