Late Green Bay Rally Hands A’s Fifth Straight Loss

The Sheboygan A’s let another late lead slip away Tuesday night, falling 7-6 to the Green Bay Blue Ribbons in Wisconsin State League action at Wildwood Park.
The loss was Sheboygan’s fifth straight.
The A’s grabbed the first lead of the night in the third inning. George Hoss walked, stole second, and came around to score when Chase Hanselman singled to left. A throwing error on the play allowed Hanselman to reach second as Sheboygan took a 1-0 advantage.
Green Bay answered in the fourth. Dawson Schmidt doubled home the tying run before the Blue Ribbons took a 2-1 lead after a walk and an error allowed another run to score.
Sheboygan responded with its biggest inning of the night in the bottom of the fourth, sending nine batters to the plate to reclaim the lead. Hudson Wagner scored on Sawyer Shultis’ fielder’s choice before Jimmy Juergensen crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Moments later, Hanselman delivered the biggest swing of the game, lining a two-run double to right that scored Hoss and Alex Ames to give the A’s a 6-2 lead. Connor Lasch followed with a single, but Green Bay escaped without further damage.
The Blue Ribbons chipped away over the next several innings. Eason Hurd and Quinn Falish hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth to trim the deficit to 6-4, and Landen Lozier scored on Brayden Pleau’s sacrifice fly in the seventh to make it a one-run game.
Green Bay finally pulled even in the eighth when Boone Kirst singled home Dawson Schmidt, then completed the comeback in the ninth as Lozier led off the inning with a solo home run to center field for a 7-6 advantage.
Sheboygan put two runners aboard in the bottom of the ninth after a walk to Hanselman and a single by Wagner, but Green Bay reliever Evan Cichanofsky recorded the final out with a strikeout to end the game.
Jared Reklaitis gave the A’s seven strong innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out nine. Eric Schmitz took the loss after allowing two runs over the final two innings.
The loss continued a frustrating stretch for the A’s, who again saw defensive mistakes prove costly. Three errors contributed to Green Bay’s comeback, continuing a trend that has seen physical and mental miscues turn into runs during the club’s current losing streak.
The A’s will look to regroup with a difficult stretch ahead, traveling to West Allis for a Wisconsin State League matchup Wednesday before returning home Thursday to host NEWBL-leading Menasha. Sheboygan then heads to Lombard for a four-game weekend series.
