One Hit Wonder: A’s Steal Win Over Menasha

Posted: June 11, 2025

The Sheboygan A’s stole one from the Menasha Macs Tuesday night, as they used six stolen bases to help grab a 4–3 victory at Wildwood Park in their Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League opener.

With the win, Sheboygan improved to 7–3 on the season, 1–0 in the NEWBL and are 1–2 in Wisconsin State League play. They return to WSL action tonight with a road matchup against the West Allis Nationals in Burlington.

Things didn’t start smoothly for Sheboygan. Menasha opened the scoring in the top of the first with a single and a double to plate two runs, then made it 3–0 in the second with a sharp RBI single down the left field line. But the A’s began chipping away in the third. A string of walks loaded the bases, and Hudson Wagner put the A’s on the board with a groundout that scored Bradyn Horn. Jimmy Juergensen followed with another RBI groundout, and when a Menasha throwing error allowed Jacob Neese to cross the plate, Sheboygan suddenly had a 3–3 game without recording a hit.

An inning later, the A’s capitalized again — this time with patience and pressure. After Calvin Keesler was hit by a pitch and stole second, a passed ball eventually allowed the go-ahead run to score, giving Sheboygan a 4–3 lead it would never relinquish.

The bullpen and defense took over from there. Casey Stone pitched a clean sixth inning, working around a pair of walks and escaping a bases-loaded jam in part thanks to a strikeout and a lineout. In the seventh, Shaun Gavin was lights-out. He struck out the side in the seventh and continued his dominance into the eighth and ninth, fanning six total over three innings of scoreless work to earn the save. Gavin stranded five runners over his final two frames — including one in scoring position in the ninth — shutting the door on Menasha’s late rally attempts.

Offensively, Sheboygan drew seven walks and stole six bases on the night, with Nick Tenny swiping two. Neese and John Hadley each reached base twice via walks, and Juergensen and Wagner each picked up an RBI in the third-inning rally.

The lone hit of the night for the A’s came in the eighth on a single by Juergensen.

Noah Imrie earned the win, tossing five solid innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out seven.
