A’s Take Four of Five From Kenosha Over the Weekend
Posted: July 22, 2024
The Sheboygan A’s and Kenosha Kings met for five decisions over a two-day span between Saturday and Sunday, finishing a rain-suspended game Saturday before playing a regularly scheduled double-header, and then playing a second double-header on Sunday. The A’s came way with four wins out of five as they put a wrench into Kenosha’s Wisconsin State League title hopes, who entered the weekend in first place with a week left to go in the season.
Saturday, Rain Suspended Game: Sheboygan A’s 9, Kenosha Kings 8 (10 Innings):
Resuming the June 8th game in the top of the fifth inning with the A’s leading 8-6, Kenosha scored two in the top of the sixth to tie the game and send it to extras. Chase Hanselman hit a double with two outs in tenth, and Gus Walker took a 1-0 pitch to left field, allowing Hanselman to score, giving the A’s the win. With the victory, pitcher Eric Schmitz earned his 50th career win in an A’s uniform.
Saturday, Game One: Sheboygan A’s 6, Kenosha Kings 4
The A’s jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, led by Brady Zackrison’s three-run home run that also scored Harry Steldt and Jacob Neese. The offense tacked on single runs in the fourth and fifth to extend their lead to 6-0 before Kenosha scored four of their own in the sixth to make things interesting, but the A’s held on for the 6-4 victory. Zackrison led the A’s with three hits.
Saturday, Game Two: Sheboygan A’s 12, Kenosha Kings 1
The A’s again got off to a hot start, scoring in every inning they batted in a run-rule victory. Jacob Neese collected five RBI, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Jared Reklaitis pitched a shortened complete game, going five innings, scattering four hits, striking out eight. Walker added to his team-leading stolen base total with a pair of stolen bases in the win.
Sunday, Game One: Sheboygan A’s 12, Kenosha Kings 2
A ten-run outburst by the A’s in the third inning gave them their second run-rule victory of the weekend. The A’s scored single runs in the first and second before the explosive third inning that saw Jimmy Juergensen hit a grand-slam, then saw the next seven batters all reach base, scoring six more runs. Jason Bunton got the win on the mound as he went five innings, striking out five.
Sunday, Game Two: Kenosha Kings 10, Sheboygan A’s 2
All good things must come to an end, as the A’s excellent weekend ended with a little bit of a dud. Kneosha scored four in the second and five in the sixth to help them to their only victory over the A’s this season. The A’s were limited to just four hits while Kenosha hit three home-runs in the win.
