A’s Post Dominant Victory Over Appleton

Posted: June 12, 2024

Tuesday night the A’s began a stretch that will see them play 11 games in 9 days with no off days. They got off to the best start they could have hoped for.

A week after Appleton jumped out to a 9-0 lead, the A’s returned the favor, scoring 12 runs and allowing none in a run-rule victory Tuesday night.

The A’s took an early lead in the first inning, with a run scoring on a double play and a two-run single by Jason Sims.

Chase Hanselman extended the lead in the second inning with a triple off the wall. The shortstop for Appleton who tried to throw Hanselman out at third, was missed by the third baseman and went out of play, allowing Hanselman to score on the error.

The third inning saw another surge with doubles by Sims and Ian Merry, along with a passed ball, pushing the lead to 8-0.

Four more would cross the plate in the fourth inning when a Brady Zackrison single scored Sean Tillmon, another Merry double scored two, and a sacrifice fly by Gus Walker pushed Sims across the plate.

Dawson Selvoski made his first start of the season on the mound, going the first three innings, striking out one and walking two. Michael Martinez, credited with the win, pitched the fourth and fifth innings, and Casey Stone pitched the sixth and seventh.

Merry led the offense with four RBIs from the eighth spot in the lineup, going 3-for-4.

Game two of the 11-game stretch is Wednesday night in West Bend as the A’s of Sheboygan take on the A’s of Kewaskum. The Sheboygan A’s are back at home on Thursday. The 2024 season is presented by Meijer.
