vs. Appleton Legends

A’s Fall Behind Early, Lose to Legends 10-4

Posted: June 6, 2024

The Appleton Legends scored six runs in the bottom half of the first inning, all with two outs to set the tone early, resulting in a 10-4 loss for the A’s.

The loss evens up the A’s record in the NEWBL at 1-1, and drops their overall record to 5-3.

The Legends started the game with a single and double off of A’s starter Eric Zuberbier, who then struck out the next batter and induced a pop up for the second out, leaving the first two batters stranded. But then Appleton followed up with back-to-back singles, a double, then reaching base on an error, and another single to score six, a hole the A’s could not climb out of.

Trailing 9-0, the A’s first found the run column in the top of the seventh, when Peyton Anderson singled with the bases loaded. An error by the center fielder allowed Ben Buehring, Nick Herzog and Justin Schnell to all score.

A bases-loaded single by Buehring in the eighth would tack on another as the A’s continued to threaten, but the next two batters recorded outs, ending any rally attempt. The Legends would put up a single run of their own in their half of the eighth.

The A’s are back and Wildwood Park Thursday for a 7:30 PM game with the Menasha Macs. It’s Midwest Communications Night at the ballpark, with the radio stations of MWC in the house with prize giveaways all game long. Free general admission tickets to the game are available at their studios, located at 2100 Washington Ave., Sheboygan.
