Posted: May 31, 2024
Eric Schmitz delivered a stellar performance on the mound Thursday night, striking out 10 batters to lead the Sheboygan A’s past the Denmark Devilbears with a 7-4 victory at Wildwood Park.
Schmitz gave up just two hits and two runs over six innings, walking one in his second appearance of the young season.
The win evened up the A’s record at 2-2 overall as they head into their Wisconsin State League opener against the newly-crowned defending champion West Allis Nationals Saturday in Burlington.
The bottom of the lineup proved crucial for the A’s Thursday, with Riley Palmquist, Justin Schnell, and Alex Ames combining for four of the team’s seven hits. Together, they scored four runs and drove in two.
The Devilbears took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, however, the A’s quickly responded, jumping into the lead in the bottom of the second inning with four runs to go ahead permanently. Schnell singled and Jason Sims doubled, each driving in two runs.
Michael Martinez, Bryce Lovisa, and Holden Reilly each threw one inning of relief in the win.
After Saturday’s first road matchup, the A’s will be back home Sunday for a non-league doubleheader with the Chicago Clout beginning at 1 PM. Saturday is the Swiftie Party presented by ConnectCell/US Cellular. There will be a friendship bracelet giveaway, plus there will be a Taylor Swift-themed raffle basket, themed games, music, polaroid photo opportunities, and anyone named Taylor or Travis gets free admission to the game. It’s also the first MEIJER Family Day this season, where all kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. Kids can register to be our Junior Starters and get introduced on the field with the A’s during the game one starting lineup. A’s players will be available for autographs between games of the doubleheader, and kids can run the bases after the final game. Tickets are on sale now.
