Offense Carries A’s to Victory Over Kewaskum

Posted: July 28, 2023

Sheboygan, WI – The Sheboygan A’s offense pounded out 15 hits Thursday night as they won a high-scoring race with Kewaskum 13-8.

The game was the final regular season league game for the A’s, as they have now completed their Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League schedules. The club finished an even .500 in the tough WSL, going 15-15. They were also able to overcome a slow start in NEWBL play to finish above .500 at 9-7. Overall the A’s are 34-22 with a three-game, non-league weekend ahead of them to finish off the regular season.

Sheboygan jumped out to an early 2-0 lead Thursday night, when Brady Zackrison’s double in the first brought in Gus Walker, followed by a Jacob Neese RBI single.

After a scoreless second, the A’s score three more in the third when Zackrison’s ground ball led to Luke Smock scoring. Ian Merry then hit the A’s third double of the evening, scoring Harry Steldt, and that was immediately followed up by Brad Rindfleisch’s single to left, scoring Zackrison to give the A’s a 5-0 lead.

After a Kewaskum rally in the fourth and fifth that saw them briefly take a 6-5 lead, Sheboygan scored five of their own in the sixth and three more in the seventh to seal the game away.

Harry Steldt led the club with a three-RBI night. Zackrison, Neese, and Bennet Becker each had multi-RBI nights, including Becker’s two-run home run in the sixth.

The A’s close out the regular season this weekend at Wildwood Park. Saturday’s game against the Chicago Clout, originally scheduled as a doubleheader starting at 4 PM, has been changed to a single game starting at 5 PM. The A’s and Clout last met during the 2022 season, with the A’s taking three of the four games over the weekend.

The A’s then finish off the weekend with a 1 PM doubleheader against the Chicago Warriors at Wildwood Park. Sunday is our final Meijer Family Day of the season, where all kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. All kids will be invited onto the field for our high-five tunnel during the A’s starting lineups, and select kids will get introduced with the A’s as part of our Junior Starters. Players will be available for autographs between games of the doubleheader, and kids can run the bases after the final game. PLUS, enjoy balloon animals and face painting courtesy of Mischief & Magic.

The A’s will host a Wisconsin State League step-ladder qualifier for the Wisconsin Class A State Tournament next week at Wildwood Park. The A’s will be home either Tuesday or Wednesday night, pending the result of the Kenosha vs. Burlington matchup Friday night. If Kenosha wins Friday, Sheboygan will host Burlington on Tuesday. A Kenosha loss Friday will result in Kenosha and Burlington playing each other again in round one Tuesday, with the A’s hosting the winner of that Tuesday matchup on Wednesday. The start time for either day will be 7:30 PM.
