Defense Falters as A’s Drop Game in West Allis

Posted: June 7, 2023

Six defensive errors and six walks didn’t do the A’s any favors Tuesday night as they dropped a road matchup to the West Allis Nationals 14-9.

Leading the high-scoring contest 9-6 through four innings, the Nationals score eight in the final five innings to grab the victory, in a game that lasted over 3.5 hours.

The loss drops the A’s record to 2-4 in the Wisconsin State League. They now sit at 8-6 overall with another road matchup coming up Thursday in Menasha in a Northeastern Wisconsin League game. The A’s are 1-1 in the NEWBL.

Jimmy Juergensen (Concordia University-Wisconsin) lead the A’s offensively Tuesday night, getting two hits and two runs scored. Riley Palmquist (Marian University) and Kyle Flynn (Concordia University-Wisconsin) each recorded doubles.

The Nationals got big nights from Brian Huntzinger, Dom Kibler, Aaron Goecks, and Jonah Meidl, all who had multi-hit games.

The A’s next home game is Saturday when the A’s host the Wisconsin State League Challenge at Wildwood Park and Field of Dreams Saturday and Sunday. The Wisconsin State League Challenge is a weekend where all teams in the WSL play regular season games in one spot to help reduce travel, allowing all teams in the league to play each other five times. The A’s will play Kenosha at 11 AM and then Addison at 5 PM. They then host the Lombard Orioles Sunday at 3 PM.

Saturday is Scout Day presented by Bank First – Kids who wear their boy scout or girl scout uniform will get a free general admission ticket into the games (ticket good all day), courtesy of Bank First. Enjoy a hot dog, soda, and chips for just $4 at the concessions stand. Sunday is another MEIJER Family Day – All kids ages 14 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. All kids will be invited onto the field for our high-five tunnel during the A’s starting lineups, and select kids will get introduced with the A’s as part of our Junior Starters. Players will be available for autographs, and kids can run the bases after the game. PLUS, enjoy balloon animals and face painting courtesy of Mischief & Magic.
