A’s Sweep Through WSL Step-Ladder Playoffs; Await Appleton in State Tournament

With both teams already having spots secured in the upcoming Wisconsin Class A State Tournament, the A’s and West Allis Nationals met in the final of the WSL Step-Ladder playoffs Thursday night. And the A’s sent a message.

The A’s posted three different five-run innings as they went on to defeat West Allis 17-5.

Gus Walker, Ross Krist, and Jimmy Juergensen all had three-hit nights, while Harry Steldt and Jonathan Kim each with two-hits in the rout. Kim and Juergensen each hit home runs with Krist chipping in a double as the A’s pounded out 15 hits total in the seven-inning affair.

Blake Kunz got the start, going the first five innings, striking out seven, and walking just one before Dylan Davis came on in relief for the sixth and seventh innings.

The Wisconsin Class A State Tournament gets underway Saturday. The four-team double-elimination tournament features Sheboygan, West Allis, Appleton, and Kewaskum. The A’s enter the tournament with a combined 11-7 record (4-3 vs. Appleton, 4-1 vs. Kewaskum, 3-3 vs. West Allis) this season against the tournament opponents. The tournament schedule is:

Saturday, August 6
Game One: Sheboygan A’s vs. Appleton Legends (12 PM)
Game Two: Kewaskum A’s vs. West Allis Nationals (2:30 PM)
Game Three: Loser Game One vs. Loser Game Two (5 PM)
Game Four: Winner Game One vs. Winner Game Two (7:30 PM)

Sunday, August 7
Game Five: Winner Game Three vs. Loser Game Four (11 AM)
Game Six: Winner Game Five vs. Winner Game Four (1:30 PM)
Game Seven: Winner Game Six vs. Loser Game Six (4 PM, if necessary)

All games will take place at Appleton’s USA Sports Complex.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
