Ticket Punched: A’s Secure Spot in Class A State Tournament with Victory Over Burlington

Posted: August 4, 2022

The Sheboygan A’s are headed to the 2022 Wisconsin Class A State Tournament!

With a 4-0 victory over Burlington Wednesday night, the A’s will join the West Allis Nationals, Kewaskum A’s, and Appleton Legends for a chance to take home the crown this weekend in Appleton.

Jared Reklaitis upped his record to 6-1 with seven shutout innings and lowered his earned run average to a single-season record of 0.45. It breaks the oldest single-season record in the A’s history book, 0.88 set by Rick Reiss in 1968. Reklaitis scattered six hits and struck out 10 in the complete game effort.

A four-run fourth featuring hits from Bennet Becker, Gus Walker, Ross Krist, and Jimmy Juergensen provided all the offensive fire-power the team would need.

The A’s are now 41-19 overall this season and will finish off the Wisconsin State League step-ladder playoffs tonight against the West Allis Nationals. The Nationals already secured their spot in the tournament as the defending champions received an automatic bid.

The four-team double-elimination tournament gets underway at noon on Saturday when the A’s will take on Appleton at USA Sports Complex. If they win, they would play the winner of Kewaskum and West Allis at 7:30 PM Saturday night. A loss in Saturday’s game against Appleton would mean the A’s would face the loser of the Kewaskum/West Allis matchup in an elimination game Saturday at 5 PM.
