A’s Even Up Record in NEWBL Classic

The Sheboygan A’s defeated the Menasha Macs 6-1 Tuesday night to even up their record at 1-1 in the NEWBL Classic.

The game also doubled as their final regular season game this season in the NEWBL. The A’s finsih the 2022 NEWBL season 12-4, winning thier first NEWBL Championship since joining the league in 2004.

The NEWBL Classic is a four-team round-robin tournament hosted by the NEWBL to conclude the NEWBL season.

After two nights of play, all four teams (Appleton, Greater Green Bay, Menasha, and Sheboygan) are tied 1-1, meaning each team has a chance to win the tournament on Thursday night. The A’s are the defending tournament champions.

For the A’s to win the tournament, they will need to defeat Greater Green Bay on Thursday and have Menasha defeat Appleton. The first tie-breaker is head-to-head matchups. The A’s dropped their first game of the tournament to Appleton on Monday.

Riley O’Connell got the start, pitching five complete before Mac Doherty finished things off with two innings of relief in the A’s victory over Menasha. The A’s were able to pound out 12 hits, led once again by Gus Walker’s three, including a triple. Jacoby Endreas also had three hits with a run scored.

Following Thursday’s game with Green Bay, the A’s will be in Chicago this weekend as the team announced Tuesday night they have added a non-league doubleheader with the Chicago Clout on Saturday. The A’s and Addison Braves then agreed to make up their postponed game on Sunday at 1 PM, where the A’s will serve as the home team.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels).
