A's Split WSL Challenge

A’s Split WSL Challenge Games Saturday

Posted: June 11, 2022

The Sheboygan A’s split two games Saturday in the Wisconsin State League’s fifth game challenge, defeating Kenosha 4-1, before dropping the nightcap to Addison 6-1.

The A’s now sit at 9-8 overall, 2-6 in the Wisconsin State League with the defending-champion Lombard Orioles up next Sunday at 3 PM.

Joey Pettit (UW-Whitewater) was the A’s main offensive catalyst in game one, going 2-2 with a double and two runs batted in. Eric Schmitz (UW-Whitewater alum) went the distance on the mound, throwing only 78 pitches in seven innings to go with seven strikeouts to pick up the complete-game victory.

A four-run third for the Addison Braves proved to be too much for the A’s to overcome as they dropped the nightcap. The A’s only mustered five singles off of Braves’ starter Chris Wido, with their only run coming in the first.

Sunday is Meijer Family Day at the park when the A’s take on the Lombard Orioles. Presented by Meijer, kids ages 12 and under get a free general admission ticket to the game. Kids can also get player autographs and run the bases after the last game. Kids can be registered to be our Junior Starters of the game, where they get to run onto the field while being introduced with the Sheboygan A’s starters during player introductions before the game. Special grilled cheese sandwiches will be available at the Sargento Hardball Cafe concession stand.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League. The A's have helped develop more than 43 players that have reached professional baseball, including 2002 World Series Champion Jarrod Washburn (Anaheim Angels). All Sheboygan A's home games are played at Wildwood Baseball Park in Sheboygan. Connect with the A's on FacebookTwitterInstagram and YouTube.
