A’s Swept Saturday in Burlington

Posted: June 5, 2022

It was the start of seven straight road games for the A’s, and it did not start out the way the team intended.

Down in Burlington to face the Barons, the A’s fell by scores of 6-2 in game one, and 4-0 in game two. They now sit at 7-5 overall, 1-3 in the Wisconsin State League with another doubleheader scheduled for today in Burlington, this time against West Allis.

In game one, A’s pitching gave up 12 walks with the Barons scoring five runs on walks with the bases loaded. The lone offensive highlight was Harry Steldt’s two-run home run in the sixth to cut the score to 4-2, but Burlington answered right back with two of their own in the bottom half of the sixth.

The A’s left 12 runners on base in game two but couldn’t push any across the plate in the nightcap. Offensively, the A’s were once again led by Steldt who was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Davis Wilson got the start on the mound, pitching the complete game, striking out eight, and issuing only one base on balls.

Today’s doubleheader with West Allis was originally scheduled for a 12 PM start but has been pushed back to a 3 PM first pitch.
