A's vs. Greater Green Bay

A’s Battle Back, Fall in Extras to Blue Ribbons

Posted: July 30, 2021

The Greater Green Bay Blue Ribbons have the Sheboygan  A’s number; that’s all there is to it.

Even a dramatic game-tying five-run ninth inning wasn’t enough to deter the Blue Ribbons last night as they pulled off a 9-8 victory over the A’s despite the assistance of an enthusiastic crowd.

No matter, the A’s still emerged with the Northeastern Wisconsin League playoff championship having gone two-and-one in the round-robin tournament to win tie-breakers with victories over Appleton and Menasha.

Errors enabled Green Bay to break a 3-3 tie and take a 5-3 lead in the sixth and another three runs in the ninth inning gave Green Bay an 8-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth.

Then the A’s went to work, stringing together a number of good at-bats resulting in four walks, two hit batsmen, and a base hit for five runs to tie the game and force overtime.

Green Bay’s Blum led off the 10th with a base hit and then Van Ess singled him in for a 9-8 Green Bay victory, their third in five games against the A’s this year.

The loss drops the A’s season record to 30-29. The completed league play an even .500 in both the Wisconsin State League, 15-15, and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball Leauge, 8-8.

They resume play Wednesday night against a still to be determined opponent in the Wisconsin State league stepladder qualifying series leading up to the class A state tournament which will be held in Sheboygan on August 7th and 8th.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
