How Sweep It Is: A’s Sweep Friday DH in Menasha

Posted: July 24, 2021

In recent years, playing in Menasha has been a house of horrors.

But in a season where things haven’t gone the A’s way more times than not, the A’s just picked up their third win of the season in Menasha following a Friday night doubleheader sweep of the Macs.

The scores were 8-0 and 6-4.

In game one, Joey Pettit pitched a complete-game shutout, limiting the Macs offense to just four hits while striking out eight. Offensively, the A’s were aided by four Macs errors in addition to their 12 hits, led by Harry Steldt’s three and two each from Jacob Neese, Bennet Becker, and Pettit. The A’s scored three in the third, two in the second and cemented the victory with three in the seventh.

Game two saw the A’s as the “home team” due to all the rainouts the Macs and A’s had this year and trouble scheduling make-up dates. Steldt took the ball on the mound in this one as the A’s are in the middle of a busy stretch of games. The A’s veteran gave up two in the first but then settled in for the A’s second complete-game victory of the night. Neese continued his strong night with three more hits in the second game, including two doubles, to go with three RBI.

The A’s will enjoy an off day today before playing the Burlington Barons in a doubleheader Sunday as both teams are fighting for a top-three finish in the Wisconsin State League standings.
