A’s Go 2-1 During WSL Challenge in Sheboygan

Posted: June 13, 2021

The Sheboygan A’s gained a little ground over the weekend in the always-tough Wisconsin State League, but the win that mattered most, they came up short.

Welcoming all the teams from the Wisconsin State League to Sheboygan, the A’s defeated the Kenosha Kings 4-3 in extra innings Saturday followed by a 7-3 victory over the Addison Braves to end the night.

Sunday, the A’s took a 1-0 lead against the Lombard Orioles into the fifth inning before squandering it and dropping a 5-1 contest. The A’s now sit at 9-9 overall, 4-5 in the Wisconsin State League and 3-1 in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.

Joey Pettit played the role of hero in the A’s extra-innings win against Kenosha. Pettit not only came on in relief and shut down the Kings to earn the win, but he also gave himself the win with a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning. Pettit collected three hits in the contest, driving in three of the four runs the A’s scored.

Pettit would add to his impressive day in the second game of the day, getting three more hits en route to the A’s 7-3 win over West Allis. Nick Hancock also added a pair of hits. Eric Schmitz picked up the win, remaining undefeated this season. He pitched six innings, striking out six.

Sunday the A’s scored in the top of the first inning on a Jacoby Endreas single scoring Pettit, but that’s all the A’s offense could put together in their three-hit defeat to the league-leading Orioles. The A’s took that lead into the bottom of the fifth when the Orioles scored five to get the win.

The A’s will take Monday off before taking on the West Allis Nationals Tuesday on the road. The A’s will be home Thursday-Sunday this week, with Thursday being the first Strike Out Hunger game of the season in partnership with the Sheboygan County Food Bank. Any fans who bring two cans of soup or non-perishable food items to the game will get a free general admission ticket that night. On Friday, it’s Health Care Heroes Night at the park. Any health care worker who shows their ID at the ticket booth will get a free general admission ticket to the game. It’s the A’s way of saying THANK YOU to all our health care heroes who have and continue to guide us through the COVID-19 pandemic. Game time for both games is 7:30 PM.
