Sheboygan A's vs. West Allis Nationals

Nationals Deal A’s Blow to WSL Title Hopes

Posted: August 7, 2020

After winning their last six games and defeating the West Allis Nationals last Friday, the Sheboygan A’s lost their streak to the Nationals on Thursday night with a final score of 5-4.

A win over West Allis would have put real pressure on Lombard this weekend as the Orioles await the 3-game series with the A’s. Lombard is 15-2 going into the weekend; the A’s are 12-5.

A two-run homer hit by Sheboygan’s home run leader Josh Moses in the first inning seemed like a decent way to begin the ball game. Moses now has six home runs on the season.

The A’s maintained their 2-0 lead over West Allis until the fifth inning, when the Nationals took the lead for good. They scored four runs with Tyrese Mitchell, Griffin Doershing, Aaron Goecks and Charlie Bourbon leading the inning offensively.

Things were looking up at the end of the eighth inning when Jimmy Juergensen hit a dinger to right field that put Sheboygan just one run behind West Allis to enter the ninth. In a final attempt to come back, Ross Krist stood on second base with two outs in the ninth inning, but was left stranded to end the game leaving the A’s unable to come out victorious.

Sheboygan was able to tally seven hits, with Moses, Juergensen, TD Walker, Krist, Nathan Ebersole, Jake Falish, and Jacob Neese all contributing with one hit each.

The A’s, 19-12 overall, host Appleton tonight and then travel to Lombard for a doubleheader Saturday.
