Posted: June 30, 2020

After playing on the road to begin their season, the Sheboygan A’s hosted the Greater Green Bay Blue Ribbons at Wildwood Park to mark their 2020 season home opener.

The Blue Ribbons got ahead of the game early and scored two runs in the first inning off of an RBI double to right-center hit by first baseman Sam Kohnle. Kohnle also stole home off of a wild pitch for another run.

The A’s battled back in the bottom of the 6th inning when Sheboygan’s Mark Wanner tied the game with a 2-RBI triple to right field on a 0-2 count.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th, Harry Steldt was walked with the bases loaded which brought in catcher Shane Ryan, putting the A’s in the lead 3-2. In addition, Wanner hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field in the 8th inning which allowed for another run scored by Ryan, giving the A’s a 2-run lead. Sheboygan continued to hold Greater Green Bay and Wanner made a diving catch in left field for the game’s final out.

Eric Schmitz was the starting pitcher for the A’s and finished with 12 strikeouts in six innings of work. Ryan Fields took the mound to begin the 7th inning and finished off the game as the winning pitcher. Fields gave up no runs on one hit over a 3-inning stretch and struck out one. Jeff Thielke pitched for Green Bay and took the loss surrendering 4 runs on one hit over eight innings and striking out 13.

The 2020 season presented by Meijer continues Thursday when the A’s hit the road to take on the Appleton Legends.
