De Pere Capitalizes, Beats A’s 6-4

Posted: June 20, 2019

The inviolate rule of baseball still stands. The team that capitalizes on opportunities wins.

De Pere had six scoring opportunities at Joannes Stadium in Green Bay Wednesday night; they scored on five of them. The A’s had six scoring opportunities; they scored on two of them. It all led to a 6-4 Wisconsin State League win for De Pere.

The loss puts the A’s at 7-5 in the Wisconsin State League. De Pere is 3-4.

De Pere delivered its base runners to take a 3-0 lead after four, but the A’s got key 2-out hits from Harry Steldt and Jake Arens to drive in three runs and tie the game at three apiece after four innings.

The A’s left the bases loaded in the fourth and they left runners on second in the second, fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

Eric Schmitz was the victim of the A’s failure to deliver. Matt Freeman was the beneficiary for De Pere.

The A’s take on West Allis tonight in another Wisconsin State League contest and then host their Fan Fest fund-raising celebration Saturday at Wildwood Park.
