Fan Fest Set for June 22
Posted: June 13, 2019
The Sheboygan A’s are putting their toe into the festival waters.
Well, not really. It isn’t going to be a big deal with tents all over the place, bands all over the place and food shacks all over the place (at least not yet!), but it is going to be a fun day of activities centered around baseball.
The event, dubbed Fan Fest, will take place on Saturday, June 22, at Wildwood Baseball Park. The A’s are hoping to see a groundswell of support at the ballpark that day.
“We are looking to provide a day of fun centered around our game,” A’s general manager Denny Moyer said. The usual “brat fry“ activities are planned, but a number of other baseball-related activities will take place that are designed to provide fun for participants as well as generate awareness of the A’s program and celebrate Sheboygan baseball in general.
One of the things the A’s are doing is asking fans to write a paragraph, or a page, or a number of pages telling about their favorite Sheboygan baseball memory — a game they saw, a game they were a part of, a player they met, – anything they think might be of interest. The stories will be collected and turned over to the Sheboygan Baseball Project – a group of men documenting Sheboygan’s deep baseball history.
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration for the youth baseball instructional clinic put on by A’s players. Cost for the 90-minute clinic is $10, which includes instruction, a hot dog, soda, a ticket to a future A’s game and an A’s program for autographs.
Following the clinic, the A’s will hold a brief practice session and fans are welcome to join them. Hitting and throwing competitions will be held for fans. During and after the practice sessions, A’s players will be available for photos and autographs.
Brats, burgers and A’s concessions will be available throughout the day with II Cool entertaining early in the afternoon. Raffles will be held throughout the day with the major prizes including $500, $300 and $100 will be given away at about 5 p.m. Advance tickets, good for food, beverage and a shot at the raffle prizes are available from Sheboygan Athletic Club members.
