A’s in NEWBL Tourney Driver’s Seat After Doubleheader Sweep Tuesday

Posted: August 8, 2018

Superlative pitching performances catapulted the Sheboygan A’s into the driver’s seat of the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League post-season round-robin tournament Tuesday in Menasha.

Taylor Schwarz threw a 4-hit, 10-strikeout game at the Green Bay Storm in a 6-0 win while four pitchers combined to beat recently crowned State Class A Champion Menasha, 3-0.

Mark Wanner belted a 2-run home run, Cole Miklavcic had two doubles and a sacrifice fly, and Ross Krist hit a two-run home run to lead the A’s against Green Bay.

Against Menasha, doubles by Ryan Norton and Krist, an error and a walk got a 2-0 lead. Later, hits by Harry Steldt and TD Walker and an infield out added another.

Walker and Norton both finished with two hits.

John VanderPloeg started that game and shut out the Macs for five innings striking out 10 along the way, with Ben Folger, Mason Maziarka and Austin Fox finished up.

The A’s are 34-25 for the season and will meet Appleton Thursday night in Menasha in the final game of the A’s 2018 season. An A’s victory over Appleton guarantees the tournament championship for the A’s.
