A’s Season Ends with WSL Tournament Losses

Posted: August 14, 2016

West Allis and Kenosha play at 6 PM today at Wildwood Park for the Wisconsin State league Invitational Tournament championship after both scored one run victories over the Sheboygan A’s Saturday.

Game time is 6 PM.

West Allis beat the A’s 8-7 in a game that also counted in the regular season WSL standings due to rain outs. It gave the A’s a final 19-11 record, second to Lombard. West Allis finished third.

West Allis scored all its runs in the first two innings Saturday, but in what has become a trademark this season the A’s refused to quit and battled back in the bottom of the seventh. Cole Heili singled to start the inning and Mitch Sutton was hit by pitch. Two strikeouts followed but then Dylan Detert’s infield hit loaded the bases. The crowd was now on its feet as Trevor Cho coaxed a walk to make the score 8-7.

Then Harry Steldt stepped in and hit a bullet, but the now thunderous crowd was instantly silenced when the ball was plucked out of the left-field air just before hitting the grass.

Kenosha ace Jason Bunton, who pitched for the A’s from 03′-06′, held the A’s to just two hits, both by Cole Heili, who scored the A’s only run when he doubled in the second inning, went to third on Sutton’s infield out and scored on Nate Heili’s sacrifice fly.

Bunton fanned 11 in his 7-inning 2-hitter. Hartwig’s two out double in the fourth thinning scored both of Kenosha’s runs. There was no late game rally in this one as Bunton retired last 11 A’s in a row in the Kings’ 2-1 victory.

The A’s finish the 2016 season with a 37-19 record.
