Big Eigth Inning for Green Bay Crushes A’s

Posted: July 6, 2016

When Wyatt Olson hit a 2-out double, made it to third on an outfield bobble and scored on Taylor Grimm’s base hit, the A’s led 1-0 after the first inning.

The A’s handed that 1-0 lead over to Taylor Schwarz who nursed it masterfully allowing the Green Bay storm just two hits through seven innings.

The A’s botched some early scoring opportunities and it was still 1-0 going into the top of the eighth.

Then it happened. Even the staunchest of Green Bay fans could not have written so scourging a script for the Sheboygan A’s as Green Bay enacted in the eighth inning. The bats of the Green Bay Storm exploded producing six hits and were helped along by walks, wild pitches, one physical and several mental errors. To fans in the stands, the fireworks show of exactly 24-hours earlier had nothing on the show produced by the Green Bay Storm Tuesday night. When the top of the eighth was over, Green Bay had put up eight runs, and the A’s went away quietly for their final six outs as the Strom took home the victory 8-1. More importantly, they are in sole possession of first place in the Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League with nine league games to go.

The win puts Green Bay at 9-2 atop the NEWBL. The A’s are 8-3 and 18-8 overall. The A’s play at Oshkosh Wednesday in a NEWBL and Wisconsin State League matchup. Beginning Thursday, the A’s kick off the Wisconsin State League challenge, first with a game in De Pere Thursday night, before hosting the rest of the weekend challenge at Wildwood Park Friday through Sunday. The A’s play Oshkosh on Friday at 7:30 PM, Addison at 6 PM on Saturday followed by a 8 PM showdown with the Lombard Orioles. On Sunday, the A’s will take on the Kenosha Kings at 7:30 PM. Other WSL games will be played at Wildwood park preceding the A’s games on Saturday and Sunday.
