Detert’s Home Run Helps A’s Secure 4-2 Win Over De Pere

Posted: June 29, 2016

Aided by De Pere errors and abetted by cash-ins of 2-out scoring opportunities, the Sheboygan A’s took a 4-2 Wisconsin State Baseball League decision from the De Pere Dodgers at Wildwood Baseball Park Tuesday night.

The beneficiary of the aiding and abetting was righthander Taylor Schwarz, who was working on a no-hitter until Umentum Tanner singled with 2-out in the sixth for De Pere’s first hit. Schwarz went seven innings to run his record to 3-0 for the season. Ben Folger set up the win with a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Connor Keating pitched the ninth for the save.

A couple De Pere errors led to an A’s run in the first inning and they made it 2-0 after two when with two out, Tyler Agard singled, stole second and scored on Dylan Detert’s double.

Detert hit his third home run of the season in the sixth inning and the Taylor Grimm’ s 2-out single made it 4-0 later in that inning.

That 3-0 lead looked to be in jeopardy in the seventh when De Pere had two runs in and the bases loaded before Schwarz recorded a strikeout to end the threat. He gave up five hits over his seven innings, struck out seven and walked three.

The A’s travel to Menasha tonight before returning home to face West Allis Thursday night and Appleton Friday night. The club is 16-5 overall, 8-4 in the State League and 7-1 in the Northeastern Wisconsin League.
