Lombard Smokes A’s in Saturday Doubleheader

Posted: June 25, 2016

In a matchup of the Wisconsin State League’s top two teams entering the weekend, the Lombard Orioles asserted themselves as the clear number one, thumping the A’s by scores of 9-0 and 10-0 to sweep the Saturday doubleheader in Lombard. The two teams are scheduled to play two more on Sunday.

Derek Loomans started on the mound for the A’s in game one. Loomans started strong and kept the game at 1-0 entering the bottom of the sixth. That’s when Loomans got into a little bit of trouble, and the bullpen couldn’t bail him out, as the host Orioles went on to put up eight runs on the board and secure the victory.

Wyatt Olson had the lone highlight offensively for the struggling A’s, recording a double. The A’s could only muster two hits.

Game two was almost never in doubt for Lombard, as they quickly went up 5-0 after two innings and cruised to a 10-0 victory.

The A’s offense, which has been hitting on all cylinders most of the season, fell silent, recording only three hits in game two, for a two-game total of five. Adam Ryan took the loss in game two.

Luckily for the 12-time defending WSL champions, the Orioles will not have to face any of the A’s top three pitchers over the weekend, as none were available to make the trip.

The A’s and Orioles will meet for two more on Sunday beginning at 1PM. The A’s will need to win two games in order to keep pace with Lombard in the WSL. The Orioles currently sit at 15-0 in league play this season. The A’s are now 5-4.
