A’s Hang on to Beat Lombard

Posted: July 12, 2015

The Sheboygan A’s hit Lombard starter Jason Meger with six
runs in the first three innings and held on for a 6-5 victory and laid claim to
being the only undefeated team at the halfway point of the Wisconsin State
League Challenge being held at Wildwood Baseball Park this weekend.

A day
full of games gets under way a 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The A’s play at 1 p.m. against the Addison
Braves and again at 6 p.m. against the Kenosha Kings  They beat Oshkosh Friday night, 6-2.

On Saturday,
Wyatt Olson doubled with two out in the first inning and Harry Steldt  delivered a a follow-up single for a 1-0
A’s  lead.

A Nate
Heili single, a walk and an error loaded the bases in the second and then Dylan Detert and Dan Barwick knocked
everyone in with base hits. Singles by Steldt and Tony Grannis accounted for
two more in the third.

Adam
Ryan was recruited by Marian University as a pitcher but his bat forced
the Marian staff to convert him to a fulltime position player. The A’s agreed and have been using him in
the the
outfield and at first base.

But,
due to a shortage of pitchers this weekend, skipper Derek Loomans gave him the baseball
Saturday. Wildness enabled Lombard to
get two in the first and four hits and a walk led to two more in the fourth.

But he
left after four with a 6-4 lead and A.J. Alessi finished, giving up just one
unearned run and got the win

Olson
and Steldt whose bats have been relatively quiet recently each collected two
hits on Saturday.
