A’s Split with Lombard in Doubleheader

SHEBOYGAN – In Wisconsin State League action, the A’s faced perennial powerhouse Lombard Saturday night in a doubleheader at Wildwood Baseball Park.

The A’s won game one by the score of 2-0.

Dylan Detert was the deciding factor as the A’s got on the board in the third inning with his two RBI single, scoring Trevor Theissen and Carter Amundsen.

Taylor Schwarz was dominant as he went the distance, allowing no runs and striking out four. With the win, Schwarz improves to 2-0 on the year and now has a sub 2.00 ERA.

In game two, Lombard used the long ball to salvage the split and win game two.

Oriole’s designated hitter, Armand Candea, hit a two-run homerun in the second inning and Brian Sobeiski displayed his power by hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning, securing the 8-5 win for Lombard.

Lombard starter and North Park University product Jason Meger picked up the victory, going six innings and striking out four.

After a series of walks distributed by the Oriole bullpen in the bottom half of the seventh, the A’s were able to put together a rally pushing across five runs. Harry Steldt came up to the plate as the tying run but grounded out to the second basemen to end the game.

Brandon Winfield took the loss for the A’s and his record now sits at 1-2 on the year.

The A’s are back in action Sunday afternoon, as they will square off in another doubleheader versus Lombard, first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 PM at Wildwood Baseball Park. It will be “Throwback Night” and the A’s will be sporting their vintage jerseys from years past.

The Sheboygan A's are members of the Wisconsin State League and Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League.
